So I know that I am often overwhelmed with stress and sometimes thoughts roaming around my mind can really cause me to feel down. For example, sometimes I get so worried that I am not at the right job, or that I’m not eating healthy enough, or I don’t deserve to be relaxed and stress free. After talking to many friends I came to find that I am not the only person who experiences these feelings.
I have actually found some ways to combat these negative feelings and I have learned to just accept that I am where I need to be at this moment. I have learned that eating one bad meal is not ruining my eating habits, and that I am deserving of relaxation and joy.
I am currently reading this book called The Secret. Throughout the first few chapters the main idea is that we attract what we put out. For example we think things and we do things and we get more of those same things coming back to us. I have been using this idea to turn my negative thoughts into positive ones so that I can bring more happiness and relaxation back to me.
Lets use my example of feeling guilty when I have one cheat meal or one cheat day. When I have that cheat meal or day, thoughts begin to fly back and forth in my head that I have ruined the rest of my week or that because I have eaten badly for one meal or one day that I will continue to spiral down the rest of the week and eat worse and worse. And I used to let those thoughts get to me and I would not eat healthy the remainder of the week. Now I have learned to change those thoughts around and attract positive energy back to me.
Some of the ways I have found to turn negative thoughts into positive ones include the following:
- Distract yourself with a book or TV. Sometimes the best way to chase off a negative thought or feeling is to just distract yourself until you are able to deal with it in a less emotional state.
- Remind yourself that you are amazing and worth it.
- Write a list of all the good things you have done. Whether it be helping a friend, holding a door open, or buying someone a drink. No matter how big or small a deed reminding yourself can help chase away any negative thoughts you may have.
- Tell yourself setbacks are okay. Like my example of eating one bad meal and feeling like I’ve ruined the week, you have to remind yourself that setbacks happen and that moving on is okay.
- Stay off of social media for a bit. If you feel like you are not in the right place in life whether financially or anything else maybe it is because you are comparing where you are in relationship to others you see online. This is a big one for me and I have actually been off social media for 7 months now and I feel much better about where I am in life since I am not comparing anymore.
- Lastly be yourself. Bad thoughts come and go and it is best to realize that it is normal. Just be yourself, everything happens for a reason!
Thanks for reading and please feel free to comment any ways that help you combat negative thoughts!!!
Stay happy & healthy!!
